Michael's Background
Michael Charles’ journey of personal and professional growth began in his teenage years back in Haiti where he started to teach Music and English at the age of 14. He loved to collect thoughts on leadership, living with intent, and communication while doing his best to live them out to stretch and grow as an individual.
He migrated to the United States in 1998 where he thrived in school while volunteering with several non-profit organizations. Michael graduated High School in 2000 and secured a full tuition scholarship and paid internship with JP Morgan Chase where he began his professional career as a management consultant training in the firm's leadership development program. Michael was one of 40 young professionals selected from among 1,300 applicants for the scholarship.
Through mentorship and a continuous focus on growth, Michael found his niche in personal growth, leadership, organizational effectiveness as well as process design and development. Through diverse consulting opportunities, Michael has learned that leadership is influence – not hierarchical position, title or formal authority.
A mentor introduced Michael to John C. Maxwell (the world’s most renowned leadership experts - Named #1 Leadership/Management Expert: Inc Magazine & American Management Association) in early 2002 by recommending the book and learning program titled “Today Matters”. That book has significantly impacted his life.
Fast forward to 2011, Michael went on to become a Founding Partner of the John Maxwell Team. His experience as a Founding Partner and John Maxwell Certified Leadership Coach, Trainer, and Speaker includes training thousands of leaders and executives internationally through organizations such as the Project Management Institute (PMI), New York University, Toastmasters International, Pace University and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, just to name a few.
Michael is the author of the handbook of “Business Strategy Series” published by Emerald Insights. He is also the founder and Executive Director of Light the World Foundation – an organization with a mission to educate children in Haiti and provide mentorship, coaching, and scholarships to young adults in communities of New York City and Long Island as a way to give back to his community.
He is an inspiration to many as an example of focused intention, personal and professional growth, and achievement. Michael's passion for transformational leadership and intentional living inspires people all over the world!

About Leading With Intent
Michael started the Leading with Intent / Intentional Living blog in 2011. The blog is about leading yourself and others with purpose and on purpose. He focuses on leadership and personal development to help leaders, entrepreneurs and business professionals develop leadership and communication skills so they can build strong cohesive teams to break through barriers holding them and their teams back without burning themselves out in the process.
Being intentional means carefully selecting, on a daily basis, the activities that you will perform, the task you will complete, the thoughts you meditate on, the people you surround yourself with and the attitude you choose to display. If you don’t take control of your life and do the things that matters most, someone else or something else will. And you may not like where you end up. By being intentional we are putting ourselves on a path that will take us to new heights and the fulfillment of our dreams. When we do the contrary – not being intentional about our daily activities and thoughts – by default we are placing a lid on our potential.
Life contains a series of learning moments that you certainly cannot not miss if you practice the principles of intentional living – leading yourself and others with intention.
